» My Top 10 iPhone Apps

A post like this is almost a necessity for bloggers right now and why should I be any less. Actually though a lot of people are asking me which apps I use a lot and which ones I do really like. Considering that I have four (soon five) pages of apps the narrowing down must be done to the very importants. Oh, and I decided not to include the App Store even though I love browsing it on the iPhone itself
Nor have I included any default apps in here that I still use all the time and are in my dock. The list is not in any top order at all, they are equal.
Twitterific
I just like Twitterific. I use the desktop version of it and it’s just my favorite way of updating to Twitter. I did write a review of the app here in the iPhone center I put up a while ago.
NetNewsWire
Again, I’m using NetNewsWire on my computer and I do really like the program and naturally the free NetNewsWire iPhone app is a good one for me because I can sync which feeds I want to access on the go from my full list. I find it works really well for most things but there are things I’d like to see, like flagging on the phone and sync those back up to the computer. Again, I wrote a review of the app in the iPhone Center.
Homeworkr
This is actually a new app which does have some few quirks and smaller bugs but that’s mainly in the UI when pressing some buttons (leaving highlights on) but I’m already loving it after just two days of use. The app allows me to keep track of my teachers, courses and obivously what assignments/tests/finals I have due in each course. It’s lists them up beautifully with the due date and description and automatically hides the ones that are completed (which you need to edit the status of).
Super Monkey Ball
My favourite iPhone game. It’s a great passtime and everyone who plays it for the first time seem to love it. Again I wrote a review of this app in the iPhone center where you can read all I have to say about this addicting fun game! I’m definitely going to say it’s worth the money.
WordPress
Trust me when I say I’d like to do more inside of this app but right now it is the best way of posting blogs on the go from the iPhone which is why I’m liking the application nowadays (I was sceptical when it first arrived). It’s grown on me and if you need to blog on the go, this is just the app to do it with right now and it’s getting better all the time.
1Password
I’m a convert to 1Password on the computer to store my passwords with ease. I got really happy when I saw that this app was coming to the iPhone because it meant that I would be able to quickly sign onto sites on my phone using my stored passwords and wallets and info as well, more securely (some day I have to organize them all now). I would obviously like to see it tie in with Safari on the phone but I do know that it’s not possible right now.
MobileChat/Palringo/Meebo (web)
True, there are a lot of different applications for chatting on the iPhone but I’ve come to like MobileChat a lot. Mostly for the clean interface and simplicity. There are things again that are buggy and that needs improvement and thus for chatting I’m pending between what works best at the moment. First I try MobileChat. If it doesn’t want to work for some reason I try Palringo and if that doesn’t want to work for me, I go on the web with Meebo. I feel that Apple really needs to improve and update the SDK now so that we can get useful chatting clients that can run in the background.
Evernote
I’m a new convert to Evernote and so far I’m liking it. The ability to sync my notes (in many different medias) to my computer and to my phone makes the app good in and of itself. Plus it’s free both on the iPhone and on the computer. Until Apple makes syncing of notes possible in a better way, I’m going with Evernote!
Pianist
I have held off getting this for a long time thinking that it might not be that good and fun playing on such a small keyboard (when I’m used to a full large pipe organ). However I’m a total fan of this now and really dig it. They’ve managed to create an environment where you can actually record songs and play songs in a good way which I was doubting at first. No, I do really love this one, well worth the money here as well.
Mocha VNC Lite
After I got this set up properly it’s worked like charm and I do love being able to access my computer at home from times when I might need it. It’s a seriously powerful app even in the lite version (free) that’s got everything you really need for the basic uses. I just wish it wouldn’t crash that often though.
