iPhone 3G

The 3G iPhone is here. Or well, it is being released on July 11th! Which is basically a month from now. What’s new then? Well, it is now 3G of course and it boosts a GPS as well. It’ll be available in an 8gb black edition and in a 16gb black or white edition (your choice between colours). What is perhaps the most cool thing is the new price. $199 for the 8gb version and $299 for the 16gb model!

Some news about the 2.0 firmware as well, it’ll also be available soon and will cost $9.95 for iPod Touch users and will be free to current iPhone users.

Lets start the countdown until July 11th! I for one want it to be here now :D

» iPhone is coming to Sweden!!

Apple iPhone

Yes! Finally it’s official and announced :D The iPhone will be coming to Sweden (plus Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) "sometime this year" through Telia Sonera. Now for me sometime this year is good enough because I’m confident it isn’t in the fall but rather very soon and I’m definitely sure that I’m going to get it right away as I’ve been waiting for it to replace my stone-age cellphone for quite a while now! All in all, I’m happy, the wait will soon be over!

All in all the announcement was very short from TeliaSonera’s side and Apple has confirmed it but there are no details on any 3G etc.

» Tuesday News World Update

ScreenFlow - Screen recording application

It’s Tuesday today and I was writing this post at 7a.m this morning, before school, but apparently I was way to tired to hit the publish or save button so I quite lost all post content therefore I need to repost it now. I had my concert yesterday and thanks to my family and my best friends for being there and for being the best support. It was really awesome and went really well.

Olympus Releases E-520

Olympus is today announcing its new camera body, the Olympus E-520. It has got improved AF in LiveView, 10 megapixels, a 2.7" Screen, wireless flash control, 3.5 fps shooting and a built in image stabiliser. It is available in four kit versions, body only (£479.99), with 14-42 kit lens (£529.99), with double kit 14-42 & 40-250 (£529.99) as well as with second double kit 14-42 and 70-300 (£759.99).

Cool website - CSS-Tricks

I found out about this cool website through another blog I am subscribed to. It’s called CSS-Tricks and deals with, well, obviously cool CSS tricks etc. but also points to some good thoughts about image protection and other web related things that you really need to know and be in the loop with. A really good site I must say so keep it fresh in memory.

NAPP & Stuff clarification

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you will know that I like to mention NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) and the gang over there quite often. Now I want to note that I don’t get any kickbacks or anything (apart from the fun of doing it ;) ) when I mention them and I do it only because I’m a member myself and I really like the work they do and their style (plus they are all a really amazing and friendly crowd)! There you have it, the "amazing story behind".

ScreenFlow - Recording Application

I read this on Terry White’s techblog yesterday and it got me a little bit excited. He got turned on to (and in a chain reaction got me turned on to) a screen recording application called ScreenFlow. It’s another screen recording application for the Mac that lets you edit the recorded material right after you’ve recorded it (sadly though you need to export it out after, one of the things I love about iShowU is that you don’t need to do that there) and add callouts and even record from your webcam while you’re recording your screen. Here’s a link to Terry’s review. (If you are a PC user reading this post and hoping for a program recommendation, my recommendation is Camtasia Studio.)

» Birthday Tuesday

Today is my birthday and it is a tuesday, so naturally it is birthday tuesday here on the blog! :D I’m 16 years old today which really makes me able to start practise driving by the laws here! Pretty cool I think, can’t really believe it.

As for presents; I got a one year extension to my NAPP membership, a brand new 250gb internal HDD to replace my old one which I’m going to put in an external case and use as a backup drive I think, plus finally, a brand new 22" Eizo FlexScan S2201W screen, which was from me to me.

Lighting week over att Photoshop Insider

Scott Kelby over at his blog Photoshop Insider has pronounced this week a lighting week over at his blog where he will be going over what you need when you are starting with lighting. Yesterday was the time for the budget starter kit and you can read the post right here. Today was the time for a little step up.

 Interesting writing article on Copyblogger

In an interesting article over on Copyblogger, they are today asking us all to "say no to the three enemies of clear and direct writing". It’s a pretty nice read and we can all learn something from it.

Designing for smaller screens!

When we are designing today many think this way "most people visting my site has got a screen larger than 1024×768 and therefore I can skip the 800×600 compatibility". This is the time when you should take a look at how many is using a resolution above 1280×1024, because over that resolution comes the time where you don’t always have your browser expanded throughout the whole available screenspace and when you perhaps want to be able to view sites at 800 in max width! So be wary and think the other way around as well! As screens get larger, browser windows get smaller!

Anyway, now I*m off to continue copying over my old disk to my new one and to eat some more cake ;)

» Sunday Updates

Filed in Apple, Hardware, News, Tips No Comments »

Today is Sunday, so I decided to write about some of the newest things that have come into the world of technology. First off, the very cool tablet mac Axiotron ModBook has been upgraded. It’s now available with 2.1 and 2.4 GHz and ships with a hard drive on 120 or 160 GB. The 2.1 GHz edition costs $2 290, while the 2.4 GHz one costs $2 480.

Moving on to some quickie Apple news. On the 14th of March Irish O2 will start selling the Apple iPhone. It will cost €399 for 8GB edition, and $499 for 16GB edition. Also, rumor has it that there might be coming new iMacs pretty soon, since Intel just upgraded their processors.

Last off, i wanted to share this lighting tutorial from the UK with you.
The results are very impressive i may say!

» Brand New Tripod

Filed in Hardware, Life & Stuff, Misc, Photography No Comments »

Manfrotto 055XPROBIf you remember I told you back at new years about my tripod…loss. Or rather the loss of a vital part on my old cheap tripod. So now I got a good excuse to be buying a new tripod which is excacly what I did today because I really did need a new one. I had just decided for the Manfrotto 055XPROB mainly because of a couple of suggestions here from blog readers, other buddies and also from my own searches and looks and so far I think it looks nice although I’ve yet to really try it (gonna do this week though and give you a more detailed report then).

Now you are probably wondering which ballhead I got? That took some more pondering but I decided to go with the Manfrotto 486RC2 with quick release plate. I’m happy with this purchase as well and I think it’ll serve me very well in the future!

» Thoughts about the Nikon D3!

Filed in Hardware, Misc, Photography No Comments »

I just got to play a little with the Nikon D3 today, just a quick look but I was pretty impressed by it, especially with the performance on the 6400 ISO level, images which are useable! The white balance preview when in Live View is pretty cool as well although I find the focusing in live view mode pretty clunky and overall the camera sounds quite loud when taking photos (there is of course the wonderful shutter sound though). Also the portrait grip is pretty uncomfortable and oddly balanced. It feels like I’m going to drop the camera any second because of overload in weight. In the end though I think it is a wonderful camera, given the quick look I had on it!
