» I got my iPhone 3G!

Okay, I’m all happy, I got my iPhone today after a long time waiting for it. Queue time here wasn’t to bad, I got in the relatively short line at 9a.m and got out with my iPhone and all at 11a.m. It took perhaps 15-20 minutes to set up the contract and all with my number transitioning. Unfortunately it is going to take a full ten days for my number to transition so I cannot use the phone for calling or anything other than WIFI use. So my review is going to be once I’ve gotten to use it more. So it’s going to be split, in a little while I’ll talk about all other than the phone part, and then once I’ve gotten to use it, I’ll cover that as well to finally write a full one.
Hope all of you who were after one got it! More tomorrow.
» Happy Birthday to Scott Kelby!

These things happen once a year for all of us. Today it is Scott Kelby’s turn to become a year older. I want to wish him a great and happy birthday! Hope you are having a truly amazing day!
» I’m home again!
I’m back home again from my week away at the Koster Islands. I’m currently processing the photos I’ve yet to put up and I’ll be sharing them over the span of the week. Just a short notice, not much more to say other than back to work.
» The deal about Copyright, Model Releases and Public Shooting

There are a lot of discussions going on always about what you can do and can’t do when it comes to legal issues and photography. As Ed says in the interview, photographers have a trend to ask other photographers to get a simple solution to the problems. Well, most of them aren’t true and most times don’t apply to the situations as you think. Scott Kelby however took a little different approach and asked Intellectual Property Attorney, Ed Greenberg to come on as a call-in guest on Photoshop User TV which is airing next week. Scott posted the clips of the interview yesterday on his blog however. In the interview, Ed clears up the major things about Copyright, Model Releases and Public Shooting.
» Happy Independence Day
I want to wish all my american friends a very happy independence day! Have a safe day and a very great long holiday!
» Late Tipster Tuesday

There are a lot of sites on the web close to being too many to find. Here I share four that’s just generally cool.
- NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is the first place I start up (apart from my own sites) and check in on the member forums to see what is going on. I just love the place and could rave about it for long. It’s great folks from start to finish.
- Photography Corner is one of the more amazing photography forums I’m visiting and it’s just great all over. From contests to the comments and the members. I’ve learnt so much there over the years that I can’t recommend it enough.
- Another great site is CSS-Tricks where you can get a lot of great CSS tricks and learn how to do everything really in a good way using CSS.
- The final tip here would be to go and check out the Lexar Digital Photography site section where you can find tips and tutorials from leading photographers in the world.
That’s it from me today and I’m signing off now and going to bed to enjoy another nice day tomorrow! The shot above is also from today’s mini-hike!
» Calibrate your screen day!
Today my friends is an important day, or as I very recently realised, a very important day! Today is the calibrate your screen day. Wait you might say, I didn’t know this existed? Well it didn’t until I just invented it. Here’s the story.
I’ve never really been that big on screen calibration and mainly seen it as a thing that would just cost me money for not that visible results and so I never really tried it or anything, just dismissed because of the cost. Now however, yesterday, I got to try the calibration deal with a Spyder3 Elite that we have in the store where I work and man did it do a difference! I mean even at my laptop screen, yes, my glossy, low-qual MacBook screen it made a big difference. I’m now totally hooked up on this and going to order my own Spyder3 and make sure I calibrate my screen and colour manage all more properly than I’ve done before. It’s something I never really started to learn because I did dismiss it without seeing the difference!
As it should be, all because I am psyched up about it, today becomes the ”Calibrate your screen day” and be sure to see more things on screen calibration soon when I get up and running.
» No Blogging Wednesday
Got a lot to do today which means that there will be a no blogging Wednesday. Instead go and check out a guest-blogger post over at Scott Kelby’s blog by Matt Kloskowski that talks about a fun project that involved photoshop! Matt did a wonderful post there and it is worth your time!
Tomorrow is going to be an article Thursday with some coolies! The picture above also from my recent weekend trip! Cool things are happening, more on that tomorrow!
» It’s the Friday Stuff
It’s once again this time of the week. It’s Friday and it’s a long weekend here. In the morning I’m going to be catching a train down south to join my mum at my grandparents house. I hope for some great shooting weather there and to be able to post some new shots. Meanwhile, here are some news from today!
- If you are a Lightroom user and move between a laptop and a desktop a lot and want to be able to in a good way move Lightroom stuff like that as well, you probably want to check out Matt Kloskowski’s post today over at his blog where he talked about that. Check it out here.
- I posted up a new review in the reviews section earlier today. If you like me are a Mac user and use the Twitter service, you might want to check out the review of the Twitterific application.
- I hope you are reading this amazing comic strip, but in the event that you aren’t, go and check out What the Duck. It’s a great comic strip available on the site right here. Should start up your weekend right.
- I’m working on some cool new website sections and updates both here and on XLD Studios and both sites will get a few new cool things added coming soon. A post is over there describing the summer changes on that side.
» It’s the Wednesday News

It’s once again Wednesday and it’s hard working weeks here with a lot of stuff coming soon which I’ll be talking about in another post here, really soon, I promise you. But we do have some news for today as well:
- Dave Cross posted on his blog today about a cool company that makes embroidered shirts and more. Unlike many other companies, this one only requires you to print four shirts as a minimum. Their name is Queensboro and well, they sound really cool. So if you want to check it out, go to the Queensboro homepage. Clicking on the link above gives Dave and his barbershop quartet a referral credit if you order. The reason for the post is because I do support them.
- Each week over att Scott Kelby’s blog he features a guest blogger on Wednesdays. This week it is time for famous portrait and wedding photographer David Ziser to enter the stage…err…blog. He’s talking about what it takes to be a complete wedding photographer. Give it a read!
- I realise that it was a while ago since I posted some inspiration here on the blog so I thought we’d cap off this Wednesday with a link to an incredible photographer that I found on the NAPP Portfolios. His name is Mike Doran and shoots sports photography and has some true beauties in his portfolios.
