Coda

Where should I begin? Coda by Panic Software is one of the best coding applications ever created! It’s available for the Mac platform only and really does what you’d imagine.

Before finding Coda I used to do most of my coding in Adobe Dreamweaver, mainly because I like the auto-complete features. However I was growing tired of the resources that Dreamweaver would take up on my system and began searching for a new application. This is when I found Coda.

Coda runs for $99 and is well worth every penny. The interface is beautiful, looking like a true Mac application. It’s easy to navigate around and work in and is also very, very logical. Writing code is done in a very unobtrusive way with full tag autocompletion in many coding languages which makes your coding a lot faster. Previewing your page is just as simple as a click on the preview button!

Apart from the coding features Coda sports a site management (optional) and an FTP uploader. Now, I must admit that I’m usually suspicious to the built-in FTP uploading services in these kinds of applications as all they do is mess up my structures. Coda has solved this in a better way by only syncing files to your server (and always, surprisingly, into the correct directory) when you click and confirm the upload arrow next to an updated file.

I must recommend Coda to any developer on a Mac! It’s a super application with no real downsides! It is a must-have and no-brainer!

  1. I agree completely, and you convinced me to embrace it. I was an avid TextMate user but development on that seems to be non existent at this time (other than minor bug fixes).

My only wish for Coda would be auto complete syntax for ActionScript as I a big flash/flex coder, but beyond that it is priceless!
