Apple App Store

Hey all! It’s Monday again and I’ve been enjoying a full day off today! Fresh with all the feedback I got last week (through comments, twitter, mail and instant messages) I’m going to be working on new tutorials and articles etc. starting next week. This week is a pretty busy one as it is, although I will try to launch a few things this week as well. Now onto today’s news:

  • Apple has made a couple of changes to the App Store this weekend. One of those changes comes in as a really requested one and that’s the limit to review an application only if you have downloaded it. This is going to make the reviews for paid apps a lot better since people that hasn’t bought it won’t be commenting on pre-buy experiences!

  • Another one from Apple today. Their weekly OS X Quick Tip this week is about Spaces in Leopard and how you can edit the settings to organize your workspace better. I’ve been using Spaces since the beginning of the Leopard cycle, but never seen the "All Spaces" option.

  • The WebKit browser engine is going to be the first one to pass the Acid3 test by 100%! It’s definitely time to see these things happen, and in the end they might push Microsoft to get standards aware (although I doubt it).

  • Many newspapers seem to be going ahead and pushing out redesigns to make a greater emphasis on visuals. Latest in the big line is the Chicago Tribune who according to PDNPulse launched their newest design today.

The App Store

I must say the listning of the ten favorite iPhone apps of mine had not the intention of getting any response from developers. I have though gotten notices from the developer of Homeworkr and also from the CEO at Palringo asking which bugs I’ve encountered so that they can fix those, also with questions if there are any new features liked to be seen. This is dedication to the App in my opinion. I hope the bugs I had with Homeworkr will be fixed soon and I know that the bugs I had with Palringo are fixed in the latest upgrade which means I’m back with using it as my IM client on the iPhone and really like it (and they have more goodies in store for future updates).

So I wanted to extend a little thank you to the developers that kindly addressed the issues I and many were having to continue and develop such great products, that definitely is on my top ten list.

» 1Password application out in the App Store!

1Password

I’m an avid fan of the Mac application called 1Password that helps you store and manage your passwords. I was thrilled to hear that they were coming out with an iPhone App as well and even more thrilled when I heard the price of it. Free! It really helps to have your database on your iPhone as well because after a while of using 1Password you rely on it a bit to remember a few of the hard passwords you just cannot remember. So if you are using 1Password, check out the currently free iPhone application in the App Store. If you are not a 1Password user, check out my review of it.

Parallels Desktop 3.0

I’m pretty tired after working a full day in the camera store and I’m going to be early because the day is repeating itself tomorrow. Fun but tiresome. Here are at least a few late Thursday news.

  • From screenshots of the new Apple App Store we can see that they are imposing restrictions in both price and application size. The maximum size is 2gb and the prices range between $0.99 to $999, where the latter probably is for more enterprise styled applications.

  • A new build of the Parallels Desktop shows support for both Linux as well as 3D graphics inside of Windows. To get the free update, just go under the help menu and chose Check for Updates.

  • One of the site visitors sent me a comment yesterday noting me on a tutorial error which is indeed a realism miss. In the Pixelmator tutorial about Creating a realistic sunlight effect I missed to at the end, flip the copied image vertically so that the small piece of the window comes at the top. So for anyone being affected by this miss in the recording, now you know how to fix it.

  • Over at his blog, Scott Kelby has posted a review of the Ray Flash. The Ray Flash is essentially a ring flash that attaches to a normal hotshoe flash to make it a ring flash. It sounds like a cool product so go and check that out.

That’s that for the news today, tomorrow I’ll be back with the Friday goodies, so stay tuned. Oh and until then, don’t have too much trouble, it is Friday 13th.
