Kelby Training - Education for Creatives

Kelby Training has this week not just released one, but an amazing number of three new online classes this week! And just because I like Kelby Traning and the guys (and gals) over there are amazing and doing an incredible job (and they are good people as well), there’ll always, every Friday, be this Kelby Training column (if more than one class is added, if there one new added, it’ll be in the news post, unless it is seriously cool)!

Layers styles in Photoshop by Corey Barker

The first class this week to go online is a really good class about Layer Styles done by Corey Barker (the Photoshop Laddie!). It is covering the basics on what you need to know in regards to layer styles and how to work with them as well as what the options are. Swing by the class details today!

From Photo to Graphic Art by Lesa Snider King

I’m a big fan of Lesa’s training but it is hard to get to and find, therefore I’m pretty thrilled to see a class form her up at Kelby Training. It’s called From Photo to Graphic Art and will teach you a number of different techniques to do normal effects to your photos and make them look a little bit different as well as use them in new creations.

InDesign CS3 for Printing by Taz Tally

If you are an InDesign user or rather a new InDesign user and want to be able to learn how to prepare your documents and set them up for printing! Taz is doing a great job with this class and I’d suggest you should go and watch it today, InDesign CS3 for Printing is the name, online now at Kelby Training.

Kelby Training has released a bunch of new classes which are pretty exciting and is something you should check.

  • Corey Barker has released a new class called "Mastering the Pen Tool" which teaches you everything about the pen tool and how to use it and work with it better. It’s a really cool class that anyone looking to draw better in Photoshop and using the Pen Tool better should be checking out.

  • Richard Harrington has a basic Final Cut Pro class and teaches you how to get started in Final Cut and start working on basic projects.

  • There is also a Going Deeper in Final Cut Pro class available from Richard as well, continuing where the first left off. Some pretty cool stuff that’ll quickly get you in the Final Cut loop!

Go and visit the Kelby Training website and if you want, I have a review of it up.

» Monday Stuff

Filed in Adobe, Misc, News, Photography No Comments »

Here are some quick monday updates because I don’t have a whole lot of time today, it’s basically the evening before one of my biggest tests (I’m lucky enough to have two of them this week).

  • Adobe has released the ACE Recertification exams for most of the Adobe applications. Current ACE holders should have recieved and e-mail from Adobe about the recertification. You’ll have until the 30 April to recertify. The full test seems to be rolling out as well with a test prep. guide coming soon! Check out the ACE page.

  • Adobe has also announced that they will discontinue the Adobe Stock Photos service because it apparently is not as big of a hit as they predicted.

  • I want to give a big heads up to Corey Barker yet again for his wonderful class Photoshop Extended in Motion. It is just mind blowing stuff that is really cool to learn! Go and check out Corey’s stuff over at Planet Photoshop as well.

That rounds up my quick monday stuff and I hope some more will be coming tomorrow. Oh and by the way, if any of you use or have used the Manfrotto 055XB tripod and have any comments on it, I’d like to hear them because I’m in the market for that tripod with a good (in budget) ballhead as well. Any suggestions welcome (although exlude the BH-55, I don’t have that big of a budget).

» Sunday Quick Stuff

Filed in Misc, News, Photoshop No Comments »

Alright, so after the jam packed updates this weekend we are soon onto a new week with a lot of things happening (at least for me) before a full week vaccation that I have from school in the week after. Onto the news:

  • As you can probably see, the site has been updated with some new buttons here and there, a new header look (quite similar to the old, yet a litle updated) as well as a new footer, which I think works great.

  •  If you remember, I wrote about the Photography Corner, Photograph of the Year contest a while back. The contest is now finished and voting is over. The winning entries have also been announced and I’m astounded on the good quality of the winning entires, and I would like to congratulate them all (especially my buddy Younes Bounhar for winning it all!).

  • Speaking of contests, the Photoshop User Awards are over as well and you can find the winners right here. Some of the winners are just amazing!

  • If you are into the blog reading, Joe McNally has launched a brand new blog that you can check out right here.

  • I’ve had some more time to watch the classes over at Kelby Training and some of them just blows me away and makes the whole month membership I’m signed up for worth it, in just one class. I can really recommend the Photoshop Extended in Motion class by Corey Barker as one of the best I’ve taken in a long time. You can read my review on the service right here.

That’s about it for my Sunday Quick Stuff. I’ll be posting here again tomorrow for some more cool stuff that always happens on mondays!

» Recieved prize DVD!!

Filed in Life & Stuff, Misc No Comments »

NAPP Logo (Black)Last week I won the award “Image of the Week” on the NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) website, much to my surprise. I was of course very thrilled about just the recognition of me and my image. When I found out that I also got a free training DVD from them, as a prize, I went even happier. So I settled on choosing the Adobe Illustrator CS3 Down and Dirty Tricks by Corey Barker, because I feel I know Photoshop very well, but I would love to learn Illustrator more. Today I received the DVD, which was very fast considering shipping from the US! :D I just love it! Kudos to Corey for making such a smashing DVD!!

I’m also looking at purchasing a new Wacom Tablet, namely the Bamboo (since my old don’t work on the Mac) because it seems like a great value for the money and it suits my price range! :) I’ll keep you posted!
