The Manfrotto 486RC2 is a classical but still quite low-cost ballhead that’s a good buy for most of the persons wanting a good quality ballhead at an affordable cost. It’s got a solid build quality and doesn’t feel plastic at all and is easily secured so that it doesn’t move an inch and it doesn’t require any real force. Equipped also with a quick-release plate, it is extremely simple to put the camera on it and it is also secured tightly to the ballhead, with no risk of falling off. The ballhead can take a substantial weight that is enough for most users, unless you are shooting with very heavy lenses, when you’ll find that the ballhead is not enough.

I would recommend this ballhead, especially along with the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod which is a very good combination. I would also recommend it to anyone looking for an entry level ballhead which still can handle most types of cameras and moderate lenses.

The Manfrotto 055XPROB is a most clever tripod that is quite like a bigger brother to the 055 in its other series allowing for a very versatile use. If you are a landscape photographer you will certinately appreciate the possibility to be able to get down to as low as 7cm. Sports photographers might appreciate the fact that you are able to get to a high distance even without the center column, making it a pretty sturdy tripod for any use. It’s also good enough for most of the camera combination, up to 7kg in weight.

What really sets this tripod apart from the other tripods in the 055 series, is the center column. You have the option of ”laying it down” in a vertical position so that you get a two way choice. Either the normal standing up way, or the lying down way, useful either in studio work or in landscape work, when you really want to get down extremely low.

All in all I’d recommend anyone this tripod who are looking to get a new and sturdy tripod, that is still very versatile and easy to use with many good features at a very good price. Compared with a good ballhead, this is a really hot tripod!

Brand New Tripod

If you remember I told you back at new years about my tripod…loss. Or rather the loss of a vital part on my old cheap tripod. So now I got a good excuse to be buying a new tripod which is excacly what I did today because I really did need a new one. I had just decided for the Manfrotto 055XPROB mainly because of a couple of suggestions here from blog readers, other buddies and also from my own searches and looks and so far I think it looks nice although I’ve yet to really try it (gonna do this week though and give you a more detailed report then).

Now you are probably wondering which ballhead I got? That took some more pondering but I decided to go with the Manfrotto 486RC2 with quick release plate. I’m happy with this purchase as well and I think it’ll serve me very well in the future!
