Palringo

It’s the end of the week and for me a countdown for when schools back on again (it’s just three weeks left now). At least it’s going to be three weeks of relaxing and hard work here. Here are some unexpected end of the week goodies.

  • First off if you are interested in hearing a little first hands on thoughts about the D700 from tech master, Terry White, then check out his latest blog post, where he is posting his first impressions of the camera.

  • The first iPhone application to support the major bunch of IM services there is has been released. It is called Palringo (app store link) and available for free in the App Store. I’m going to review it shortly after I’ve had some more experience using it. So far I can at least conclude that it is the best one out there.

  • I talk about NAPP a lot here on my blog and I’m getting some questions on whether they really are good etc. I decided to take the time to write a review of them which is now available in the reviews center.

  • Lastly a little look into the future. I’m working on developing some new cool things for the site and one of them is going to be a mac dashboard widget that displays the daily quick-tips being posted on the site. Another one is going to be an iPhone (and mobile) version of the site for better access on the road. Stay tuned! :D

Have a nice rest of the Sunday and if the weather is as nice where you are as it is here, get out there and have fun!

Nikon D700 and the SB-900 Flash

Nikon has announced two new products today, the new Nikon D700 body featuring a full frame FX sensor and the SB-900 flash which features more power and faster recycling time.

Nikon D700

The Nikon D700 is really like a smaller D3. The looks are almost like the D300 but the inside is much more of the D3 featuring the low noise capabilities in the CMOS, FX sensor. It has unlike the D3 a pop-up flash which can come in handy. You have also the two live view modes, either hand-held or tripod mode. Of course there is also the 3" LCD display and a 51-point AF with 3D Focus Tracking. Something that’s still pretty new to the Nikon line, the D700 has a dust reduction system that sounds pretty good as well.

Nikon SB-900

The SB-900 is really a pretty awesome flash head. It features a faster recycle time, it is more powerful than the SB-800, has better software, a larger LCD window and also senses whether you happen to be using a DX or FX camera. It also has a great zoom range from 18-200mm which is pretty remarkable. As a final, you can also choose between three different light distribution patterns depending on what you are shooting!
