» Nikon releases the D90!

Nikon has today released the D90 which is set to replace the older D80 model. The specifications of the D90 is pretty remarkable in times. It’s the first dSLR that can shoot in HD video quality. It’s got a 12.3 Megapixel sensor and all the goodies we’ve again come to expect by now. 3" LCD (with a 170° viewing angle), Live View and ISO ranges from 100-6400. The live view mode has a special face priority mode you can choose as well and the viewfinder coverage is at 96%. The battery life is said to be good for a whole 850 shots.
The Nikon D90 is said to be available in September, body only for £699.99 or for £849.99 with the new 18-105 ƒ/3.5-5.6G VR lens.
» Nikon releases several new compact cameras!
Nikon has definitely set for a strong day today announcing several brand new compact cameras to their line-up, probably looking to get into the compact market again. There are six new models announced. The S60, S610, S610C, S560, S710 and the P6000. I’m going to start with the S60 and the S610/S610C and then you can follow along up the ladder after the jump!
Nikon Coolpix S60

The S60 is the "luxury" camera of them all here, mainly going up against the Sony T700. It features a 3.5" touchscreen LCD, 10 megapixels and face detection as well as the full HMDI out and many more connectors. It’s partly wide-angle starting at 33mm and it does reach to a full 165mm, making it a 5x zoom! Main negative thing about this camera seems to be the battery. It is reported to only take 140 images per charge, something that even a camera with disposable alkalines beats!
Nikon Coolpix S610 and S610C

These two twin cameras are identical in every aspect apart from that the C model has got WiFi and the other one doesn’t. It’s got the expected 3.5" LCD and a 10 megapixel sensor. The S610 will be available in many colours while the S610C will only be available in one. Battery wise, on a full charge with the EN-EL12 battery it is said to take a respectable 300 shots.
» Thoughts about the Nikon D3!
I just got to play a little with the Nikon D3 today, just a quick look but I was pretty impressed by it, especially with the performance on the 6400 ISO level, images which are useable! The white balance preview when in Live View is pretty cool as well although I find the focusing in live view mode pretty clunky and overall the camera sounds quite loud when taking photos (there is of course the wonderful shutter sound though). Also the portrait grip is pretty uncomfortable and oddly balanced. It feels like I’m going to drop the camera any second because of overload in weight. In the end though I think it is a wonderful camera, given the quick look I had on it!
» Tuesday Tidbits

Nikon is doing the release today, rolling out the brand new Nikon D60 with a 10.2 Megapixel sensor, still no live-view unfortunately (2.5" LCD screen) and an even smaller body than the D40 had. Also releasing are three brand new and exciting lenses, the 16-85 DX VR, the 60 f/2.8 AF-S Micro as well as the most exciting 24 f/3.5 PC-E lens with perspective control on it! Some cool releases by Nikon there today and I guess time will reveal how they operate and I hope I can get to try them out once they are released, at least the body.

» Unexpected things happen!
I was relaxing from school yesterday evening when I got a call from the boss at a camera store where I work occasionally wanting me to work today. I couldn’t say no could I, so all day today I’ve been working hard there and I’m half dead right now. Seriously, there has been so many people coming and going all day that you just are so very tired. It has been very fun though and I hope to be able to work there some more before Christmas, if they need people that is.
Tomorrow I have a flute concert. It’s gonna be pretty fun and cool and I hope for my own sake that it goes well. For once I’m actually not nervous at all really…which is good
You could have begun to think that I wasn’t going to be leaving you with some tech stuff
Seeing as I’ve spent the entire day in a camera store, I really must jump on the wagon telling you how awesome the D300 is! I got a little time off where I could play around with the D300 a bit and my god, it is just awesome! I’m thoroughly impressed by the noise levels and how good the auto-focus performs! It just seems like a nice camera and so does the new lenses, the 14-24 in particular, it is just one very sweet lens!
I hope to get to play a little bit more with them in due course and maybe even a D3
I might get a post with the news up later but now I’m going to watch some TV and relax a bit more!
