There are many times you can have use for a text that looks to be really hot, almost on fire. In this tutorial we are going to be creating a text that looks to be really hot, using mostly blending options.

Final Result

Step 1

Create a new document where we will be working. I’m using a 580×200px file at 72ppi. I have set my background color to a dark red (#3c1400) and my foreground color to a bright orange (#ff5400). I’ve filled my canvas with the background color to give me a good workspace to work off.

Step 1

Step 2

Grab your text tool and type something and lay it out as you wish, I’m typing the text “100% More Energy” imagining this in an ad for an energy drink. The font I’m using is “Bodoni SvtyTwo OS ITC TT”.

Step 2

Step 3

Add the blending options as indicated in the screenshots below to the type layer you just created.

Step 3 - Blending Option Settings

Step 4

We are already getting the result we are going for but to add to the effect we are going to first duplicate the type layer by selecting it in the layers panel and then pressing the shortcut Command + J (PC: Control + J).

Step 5

On the layer at the bottom of the two type layers, we are going to go into the blending options and add the following styles as indicated in the screenshot below as well as untick the drop shadow that we added previously!

Step 5 - More Blending Options

Step 6

After we have added that to the bottom layer, we are going to make sure that same bottom layer is selected and bring up Free Transform by pressing the shortcut Command + T (PC: Control + T). While holding down the shift and option (PC: shift and alt) keys, we are going to drag a corner outwards to slightly enlarge the bottom layer, which will give us a blurred text behind the clear top text.

Final Result of Tutorial - Hot Text Effect

We now have our final text effect that can be used widely in designs.
