Spend time selecting images for your blog posts

When people read a blog they generally read it through rather quickly. Readers are browser type persons and therefore typically will not stop for very long and especially not read the text through to see if there is anything that they like. This is where images comes in.

Images is a powerful way to be able to draw a users attention to a specific post. It is often said, “a picture says more than a thousand words” and that is really true. By taking advantage of this when writing and publishing your blog posts, you can help to make sure that the user’s focus is drawn instantly to the posts.

Newspapers use images extensively

If you go to visit a newspaper website for example, you’ll see images that go with generally the main posts, with the rest being stripped of them when you view a news headline and preamble page. This is to keep your eyes from straying onto another post than the one they want you to, which is the main one.

Use professional images

When you are looking for images for your posts, remember the copyright laws. However much you want to, you cannot go taking photos of Google. I would suggest using high-quality stock photography works. There are many free stock-photography sites as well that you can use if you don’t want to pay a dollar or two for a smaller stock photo. Generally the paid sites have a bit higher quality and certainly a lot more to choose from.

Just make sure you account for the images in your blog layout and your blog post style. You may have to work it a bit to fit the images in at their best, but definitely do it. Images add another dimension to your blog posts.

Where everyone learns Photoshop - National Association of Photoshop Professionals

  1. Excellent article Erik! Short and simple. I love it!

  2. There are quite a few sites now that allow you to select professional blog photos for free if you use the code that they provide. Its usually something like the image use is free so long as the image is a link back to the website but some also have annoying ads on the images. Two that spring to mind a bigstockphoto.com and valuestockphoto.com plus I think photrade.com was doing something similar
